Found at the site DNAGedcom.com, ADSA is a tool developed by Don Worth, that presents a visual representation of matching DNA segments on a single page from data downloaded from Family Tree DNA or 23andMe. New PBS Genealogy Series Sunday Nights

This is a reminder to watch this season's "Finding Your Roots" on your local PBS station.  Not only does Professor Gates trace his guests' ancestors back centuries, in some cases to the 13th Century, he also discusses their DNA test results in terms of haplogroup and percentage of African-American, Caucasian, Native American and Asian.

The new PBS genealogy series "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr." debuted Sunday, March 25 at 8 p.m.  The 10-part series will explore the genealogy and genetics of famous Americans including Kevin Bacon, Robert Downey Jr., Branford Marsalis, John Legend, Martha Stewart, Barbara Walters and Rick Warren.

On the show's website, you can learn more about the research team (the New England Historic Genealogical Society staff did a lot of work for the series) and share your story. Find full versions of the show at the video website.

Transfer of Y-DNA Results to SCGS Project in FTDNA

If you have tested your Y-DNA with AncestryDNA, GeneTree, or Sorenson's SMGF, you now have an opportunity to transfer your results to Family Tree DNA where SCGS has its DNA project. FTDNA has the largest database for matching so you have a higher possibility of finding cousins and comparing genealogy.

Transfer options are listed here in this FAQ and range from $19 to $58.

Since testers want to know who matches them in the database and should want the haplogroup prediction, it is best to pay the $58.00 fee for the Y-DNA46 and Y-DNA37
transfer.

A Day of French DNA - March 27

The joint French Canadian Historical Society of California and SCGS DNA Interest Group March 2011 meeting is dedicated to learning about the power of genetic genealogy.

During the morning session Alice Fairhurst, SCGS DNA Project Leader and DNA Interest Group Chair, will lead a panel discussion of how DNA testing complements our French and French-Canadian research.

Following a potluck luncheon we will break into Round Table discussion groups to discuss how y-DNA, mtDNA, and autosomal DNA testing can be used to resolve French naming conundrums (i.e., those challenging dit names), help trace our Qu├ębec ancestresses, and to connect with our close and distant cousins/cousines. The power of the French Heritage DNA web site will also be explored.

SCGS Tech Talk Survey: DNA

Our 3-minute survey is back for February. This month, we're asking about your use of DNA in your family history research.

Click here to take the survey.

The survey is open to everyone, and we look forward to your participation. Please feel free to pass this invitation along to genealogy mailing lists, cousins and friends, and fellow genealogical society members.

Respondents will be able to see the summaries of the answers, and we'll print all of the results in the March SCGS eNews and Notes.
